Nambucca Heads

Nambucca Heads s a very quiet and laid back part of the coastline of northern New South Wales. It’s sleepy nature is a magnet for those seeking the simple coastal lifestyle of fishing, surfing and long walks on the beach. The view from the headland is beautiful and the sunrises from further down the river are breath taking. We were fortunate to have a clear calm morning to capture some great shots of the headland at dawn.

The headland itself is steep. Too steep to walk comfortably but there is a river boardwalk that gets you around to the seaside of the headland. From the top of the headland you can take in the beaches and the river mouth that makes this place unique.

We spent a bit of time traveling the coastline and the hinterland around the area. Port Macquarie surprised us with its recent river front parkland renovations and the break walls used to protect the shore against the tide of the ocean and Hastings River. They make for a great walk but also offer some art work at the same time. The council has encouraged people to leave there mark by way of painting the rocks with various messages and illustrations. The same has happened at Numbucca Heads at the V-Walls with some of the art work of a very high quality.

A drive into the hinterland above Macksville leads us to “The Pub With No Beer” made famous in the song by Slim Dusty. It’s a pretty little country pub with great food at proper country pub prices. Plus there is actually beer on tap that’s cold and refreshing. The pub even has a church at the back that has been relocated to the site so you can drink and then repent if need be.

Next we head inland to the Hunter Valley. Stacey is keen to taste the flavours of the area.
