Circuitous Route – Planning

IT’S ON!

It’s been talked about for a while now, too long, in fact.

We have decided to throw in the jobs and make the big lap happen.

Stacey and I are packing up the van and hitting the road to see this great country. The actual itinerary planning has just started with the goal to make a loop of Central Queensland before it gets too hot. Chinchilla will be the first port of call and an opportunity to ensure everything is working well for the long tour ahead. Consider it the ‘Shake Down’ before heading on to Roma.

From there our route will take us to Charleville, Longreach, Winton and Julia Creek before looping back to Charters Towers then down to Emerald. This part of the trip will see us roam through the dinosaur fossil region where we hope to get a little hands on.

From Emerald we’ll stop in at Carnarvon Gorge for some hiking and photo opportunities before closing the loop back to Roma. From there we intend to go South through St George and into New South Wales.

We were looking to drive the loop in the other direction but the school holidays will see the Gorge being quite busy. So heading out to Charleville and going clockwise is likely to be our best option.

Inner QLD Loop

That’s about 3500Kms just to drive the loop which doesn’t include side trips and timely detours.

No time frame on how long this will take but we expect a few weeks.

Still plenty to consider between now and our scheduled leaving date of the 10th of September 2017 with the apartment being prepared to be rented out to cover some of the costs of the trip.
