Goodbye Italy

We say goodbye to our traveling companion, Nicole, seeing her off back to London on Saturday afternoon, thanking her for three weeks of full on sightseeing. But before Nicole leaves we make the trip up the Funicular at Lake Como to overlook the lake and back to the Alps. What a great view but the overcast conditions are not favouring the photography.

On Sunday morning Stacey and I decide to make the most of our last day here and venture the other side of Lake Como walking the lakeside park and passing the aero clubhouse. Yes there is an aero club using the lake as a landing place for their seaplanes. Next time we are here we will look into a flight over the lake to see it from the air.

The walk around shows us a number of older villas that were built by wealthy families creating their summer holiday residences. While a few looked quite tired there are others that are simply outstanding. Where the grounds are open allowing the general public to wander through their gardens.

The view from this side of the lake is something to marvel at as well. Looking across the lake you can take in the ferries passing by with the he funicular in the background. Not a bad way to spend the day sipping coffee on the terrace in the morning followed later in the day with drinks on the lawn.

After walking nearly 8 kilometres along the lake we decide to catch the ferry back to Como and say goodbye to this beautiful place. Our time in Italy is drawing to a close and we have a train to the airport to catch. From there its back via Dubai for a few days then home.

Goodbye Italy. We’ll be back again.
